Reminder of New Meeting Place & Upcoming November Oleanders

Due to renovation of the University Baptist Church, Gardeners By The Bay (GBTB) garden club now meets at Clear Lake United Methodist Church, in the Fellowship Hall, 16335 El Camino Real, Houston, 77062. Hospitality with refreshments begins at 9:00 am, followed by monthly presentation at 9:30am. We still meet on the first Wednesday of every month.

On November 2nd, Lydia Miller, President of the International Oleander Society in Galveston will speak to us about “Looking at Oleanders with Different Eyes”.

March 2, 2016: Ferns for Sun and Shade

Join us for our March 2nd meeting, when Darla Harris, President of the Texas Gulf Coast Fern Society, will speak to us about the many varieties of hardy ferns for both sun and shade in our area.

February 3, 2016: Delightful Daylilies

At our February meeting, Nell Shimek of Shimek’s Gardens in Alvin will speak to us about the many varieties of daylilies and the best practices to grow and multiply them. Nell and her husband have grown over 800 different registered daylily cultivars along with thousands of their own daylily seedlings in their display garden.

March 4, Leah Gunter will speak to us about the history heirloom vegetables. Gunter’s Heirloom Vegetables supplies the vegetables for Arbor Gate nursery. Some plants will be available for purchase at our meeting.

Norman Arnold will present “Secrets of Managing and Installing Your Landscape” at our February meeting. Norman is a Galveston County Master Gardener and CEO of Glorious Gardens, Inc.

The emphasis of his talk will be about creativity and self expression. His goal is to stimulate the inner designer in gardeners and free them of inhibitions so they can be imaginative and playful when planting their gardens.

Join us for our first program of the new year: “For the Love of Roses”, presented by Galveston County Master Gardener and American Rose Society Consulting Rosarian John Jons. He has successfully grown and hybridized roses in Clear Lake area for over 15 years.
