Photos from our last field trip to Texas Bee Supply in Dayton on April 17, 2024. We had a tour where we learned everything you ever wanted to know about bees. Afterwards, we went to lunch at Italianos in Atascocita.

January 3, 2024 – Lecture on Rain Gardens by Charriss York, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service
Charriss York Program, Director, Green Infrastructure for Texas, and her colleague Celina Lowry.
Charriss York is a Program Director for the Texas Community Watershed Partners, a program of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service through the Disaster Assessment and Recovery Unit. York leads the Green Infrastructure for Texas or GIFT team that works with communities to find nature-based solutions to manage stormwater for both flooding and water quality benefits. Charriss has worked with communities in Galveston and Harris Counties to implement on the ground examples of green infrastructure and stormwater wetlands. York joined the TCWP team in 2006, in 2008 she took over the stormwater program, and in 2020 she became one of two TCWP Program Directors. Charriss holds a B.S. in Biology from Truman State University and a M.S. in Botany from Oklahoma State University.

December 6, 2023 – Armand Bayou Lecture
Speaker was Tim Pilot. Armand Bayou Nature Center is an urban preserve located in Pasadena and southeast Houston between the Johnson Space Center and the Bayport Industrial District. The 2,500-acre nature center is the largest urban wilderness preserve in the United States. Tim is holding a Texas Rat Snake and an American Alligator. November 1, 2023 – Presentation on Irises
This was an informative presentation on Irises by club member, Becky Kadel.
Becky grew a variety of irises in Omaha for over 30 years. She had 300 different cultivars in her yard. She served as president of the local Omaha club as well as show and sale chairperson. She is an American Iris Society accredited judge, although not currently active.
Becky now grows a variety of plants including hibiscus, daylily amaryllis, and begonia.
November 15, 2023 – Trip to Brookwood Community
Founded in 1983, Brookwood is a God-centered non-profit residential and vocational community for adults with disabilities located on was built on 475 acres of rolling hills in Brookshire, Texas.

October 25, 2023 – Trip to Mercer Gardens
Mercer Gardens is 60-acres of a peaceful oasis where visitors can explore and admire gardens of bamboo, color displays, daylilies, endangered species, ferns, gingers, herbs, tropicals, and more.
