GBTB November Monthly Meeting

November 1, 2023

Please join us for an interesting and informative presentation on Irises by club member, Becky Kadel.

Becky Kadel moved from Omaha, NE in 2013.  One of the first things she discovered is that her beloved iris would not grow in the Clear Lake area.  It's not the heat or the gumbo soil, so perhaps it’s the salt air?

Becky graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Zoology and minors in Microbiology and Chemistry.  Her degree included an internship at M. D. Anderson facility many years before her permanent relocation to Houston. She worked as a Registered Medical Technologist at Ben Taub Hospital.  After returning to Omaha, she went back to school to become a high school chemistry teacher and retired in 2008.

Becky grew a variety of iris in Omaha for over 30 years.  She had 300 different cultivars in her yard.   She served as president of the local Omaha club as well as show and sale chairperson.  She is an American Iris Society accredited judge, although not currently active.

Becky now grows a variety of plants including hibiscus, daylily amaryllis, and begonia.  After the brutal heat of summer, she is glad to have some plants that survived.

Also, members, please sign up for our trip to Brookwood Community, scheduled for November 15, 2023.  If you have not filled out the Policy and Emergency contact forms [field trip], please do so at this meeting.
